About

Dr Marc Dresser

CEnv — Chartered Environmentalist EngD — Doctor of Engineering MIAgrE — Member, Institute of Agricultural Engineers

Eleven44 was founded by Marc Dresser — an independent technical consultant with over 28 years of experience across science, engineering, environment, and strategy. With a background spanning soil science and engineering research at Cranfield University, environmental and sustainability strategy and land development masterplanning at Landcare Research, International Sustainability leadership and Food security at Fonterra, Principal Rural Consultant and Health & Safety at Opus, and nine years as Technical Director and Principal Environmental Scientist at Beca. Marc brings a breadth of expertise that most consultancies can't offer from a single person. His work is defined by bringing independent technical expertise to complex challenges that don't always fit neatly into a box.

Marc has also served as a director on a number of private sector boards, bringing the same strategic thinking and technical rigour to governance as he does to his consultancy work. He also plays a leading role in a number of national philanthropic organisations — a reflection of the values that underpin everything Eleven44 does.

I established Eleven44 because I believe the best technical advice comes from someone who is fully invested in your problem — with the freedom to focus entirely on finding the right answer, and a direct line to you.

Based in the Waikato, I work across New Zealand and internationally. Every engagement — regardless of scale — gets the same thing: my full attention, genuine curiosity about your specific situation, and the time to listen properly before offering any advice. I care about getting it right — not just technically, but for you. And if a challenge falls outside my own sphere of expertise, I have a wide international network of trusted specialist partners I can draw on — so you always get the right person on the job, not just the available one.

What I Do

Areas of Expertise

My work sits at the intersection of environmental science, engineering, biosecurity, land development, sustainability, and strategic thinking. When a problem calls for disciplines beyond my own, I draw on my wide international network of trusted experts to make sure nothing is missing. I don't limit myself to a single discipline. Complex problems rarely do.

01
Environmental Risk Management

Independent assessment and management of environmental risk across land, water, and air — from regulatory compliance to complex contamination and liability challenges.

02
Biosecurity Strategy & Response

Strategic advice on biosecurity planning, risk assessment, incursion response, and policy development — at farm, regional, and national scale.

03
Applied Research & Engineering Design

R&D programme design and delivery, engineering solutions, and applied science across soil, water, land use, and primary production systems.

04
Innovation & Technology Integration

Identifying, evaluating, and integrating new technologies and approaches into existing systems — bridging the gap between emerging capability and practical application.

05
Strategic Planning & Business Development

Strategy development, business case preparation, land development masterplanning, and stakeholder engagement for organisations navigating change, growth, or complex operating environments.

06
Translational Communication

Making complex technical and scientific information accessible to decision-makers, communities, and regulators — without losing rigour or accuracy.

Who I Work With

Everyone who needs good advice

If the problem is difficult and the stakes matter, I'll work with whoever needs help solving it — from iwi groups and local catchment communities, to central and local government, primary sector businesses, industry, and international clients. I don't limit by sector.

How I Work

Rigorous, independent, direct

1
Understand

I take time to understand your specific context, constraints, and objectives before offering any advice — not every problem is what it appears to be at first.

2
Analyse

Rigorous, evidence-based analysis drawing on a broad range of technical disciplines and real-world experience — not just what fits neatly into a template.

3
Advise

Clear, direct recommendations in plain language — technical rigour without the jargon. You get my honest view, not a hedged consulting answer.

4
Deliver

I stay engaged through implementation and remain available for ongoing support — good advice doesn't stop at the report.

"The best technical advice comes from someone who is fully invested in your problem."

When you engage Eleven44, you work directly with Marc — an experienced, credentialed technical specialist who has spent nearly three decades solving hard problems across multiple sectors and disciplines.

My approach is always the same: understand the problem properly, check back with you, apply the right expertise, check back again, and deliver something that actually works in the real world — and that you've been part of shaping along the way.

I also know my limits. If your challenge falls outside my own expertise, I'll tell you — and then I'll find the right person to help. Over nearly three decades I've built a wide international network of trusted specialists across science, engineering, law, planning, and beyond. I'm not afraid to say 'that's not me' — but I will always make sure the right expertise is on the job. That's part of what I mean by getting it right for you.

Work With Me

Beyond Consultancy

Motorsport Risk Management

Outside of the consultancy, I hold Race Director and Clerk of the Course licences under AASA and IOPD. Motorsport risk management is something I've been involved with for many years and continue to love — it applies many of the same principles as my technical consultancy work: rigorous risk assessment, rapid decision-making under pressure, and clear communication in high-stakes environments.
